The boy in the Striped Pyjamas.

The boy in the Striped Pyjamas is a novel by John Boyne. It was written in 2006.

Bruno was nine years old and he was the son of a Nazi Commandant. His family abandoned Berlin and moved to Auschwitz for his father’s work. From the window of his new room, Bruno saw people who always wore a pair of “striped pyjamas”. Actually these people were Jewish prisoners. Bruno decided to go to explore their new home. Through the security fence of the camp he met Shmuel. He was a Polish Jewish boy. Bruno and Shmuel became good friends. Bruno brought him food every day and gave it to him through the fence.

Shmuel could not find his father, so Bruno decided to cross the fence. They were looking for Shmuel ‘s father when it started to rain. The camp guards escorted them to a “warm” and “safe” place. The children went into a gas chamber and were killed with other Jewish people.
