Michael Crichton

Michael Crichton was born in Chicago in 1942. He was an American doctor, writer and filmmaker considered the initiator of the narative style called techno-thriller.

His first book, "Odds On" was published  in 1966. When he was studying medicine he published his first big hit, "The Andromeda Strain". Until 1972, Crichton used the name John Lange as his pseudonym to sign his works.

He has sold over 150 milion copies of his books, most of which are best-sellers and have been translated into over thirty languages. Of his novels, thirteen of these have been made into films. He wrote Jurassic Park and the television serie ER (Emergency Room).

He is the only person who has had: the number one book (Disclosure), the number one film (Jurassic Park) and the number one TV show (ER) at the same time.

Since the publication of "State of Fear" in 2004, he has intensified his participation in Climate Change or Global Warming conferences.

On 4th November 1988 he died of cancer at only 66 years old. His wife Sherri and his daughter Taylor told this news next day on Entertainment Tonight on CBS.

In 2003 they named a new specie of dinosaur (Ankylosaurus) in his honor: Crichtonsaurus bohlini.

In 2009 HarperCollins discovered a novel in Crichton's computer and published it with the name of "Pirate Latitudes"
